In January of 2021, JoJo Siwa surprised the world when she tweeted a photo of herself wearing a t-shirt proclaiming her to be the "Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever." That was Siwa's way of happily coming out. In April, the colorfully dressed performer told People that she's still trying to figure out exactly how she identifies.
"I still don't know what I am. ... I want to figure it out," she said. "But like, I don't know, bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight. I always just say gay because it just kind of covers it or queer because I think the keyword is cool. I like queer. Technically I would say that I am pansexual because that's how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human."
When Nia Sioux learned about her friend coming out, she was thrilled for her. "I think that it's amazing, and I'm really, really proud of her," Sioux told Access Hollywood of the 2021 "Dancing With the Stars" contestant making history by being paired with a same-sex partner (via Youtube, New York Times). "I texted her, I was like, 'Dude, I'm so proud of you,' and she was like, 'Thank you.' So yeah, I haven't seen her in a long time, but I'm really, really happy for her and she does look really happy." We're happy Siwa has friends like Sioux by her side.
